Fire Safety & Emergency Medical Assistance

The Woodburn Fire District, established in 1901, is centrally located in the Willamette Valley in Marion County The district provides fire protection and advanced life support emergency medical service to 40,000 residents across a 75 square mile area that includes the communities of Woodburn, Gervais and surrounding unincorprated areas in Marion County.

The district operates five strategically located fire stations. Supported by a rapidly growing tax base and strong community backing, the district is equipped with state-of-the-art equipment and modern fire apparatus.  A comprehensive training program is in place, emphasizing best practices in firefighting strategies, tactics and equipment recommended by the Underwriters Laboratory and National institure of Standards and Technology (NIST).

In 2024, the district responded to 3,724 emergency calls, representing an average annual call volume incraese of 4.73%.

The Woodburn Fire District was able to add eight (8) additioanl firefighters through a SAFER grant provided by FEMA, which runs through February 2028. This added staffing is currently helping to meet the increased volume of emergency responses. However, the district remains short of the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) sstandard, which recommends a ratio of one (1) firefigher per one thousand (1,000) residents. With 24 firefighters serving a population of over 40,000, the district does not yet meet this benchmark.
